Scene 1: In this scene Scott (main character) is dating a girl named Knives Chau and is going to Scotts band meeting. Scott is a 22-year-old guitarist with a passion for music and his band. This scene shows Knives shocked and zooming into her face slowly while the band plays the music intensely. This may leave the audience feeling shocked about what she may say next with this extreme expression on her face. The zoom in this case shows the camera lens moving closer but the camera is staying in the same place. This could sometimes also give the viewers a sense of paranoia or make them feel claustrophobic. If not, it can also bring objects at a distance closer to the lens or show size and perspective. Knives later expresses how overly excited she is for their next performance which helps ease the viewers relief and cheers them on.
Scene 2: In this scene Scott dreams about this girl rollerblading after feeling lost. He later sees her at a party and talks to her more. She gives him her number and tells him to hang out later. The transitions in this scene leave you feeling lost and wondering who this girl is. This scene also transitions to a low angle shot of this mysterious girl (Ramona Flowers). A low angle shot helps the character refer closer, larger, and taller. This helps emphasize how important the character is to the movie. After this is shows the quick transition of him waking up from his nap in a hurry. This is a close of his face with a quite distressed look on his face. The next day she stood up at his door with his package waiting. They get to meet each other and talk about their past with one another.
Scene 3: In this scene Scott learns Ramona has 7 exes. He discovers to date Ramona; he must defeat her “seven deadly exes.” Scott already defeats one named Mathew Patel. When fighting Mathew there were many medium close ups used in this scene. In medium close-up shots it helps capture facial expression and body language. The medium close shot help capture Scotts serious facial expressions help capture the intense emotion of the scene. Later in the scene it shows, an extreme camera shot by showing the coins dropping and focuses on only the coins. Filmmakers used extreme close-up shots to highlight an important detail you would not see otherwise. This helps the filmmaker show what they want you to focus on. The coins dropping resembles the defeat of Mathew Patel Scott caused in this scene.
Bonus scene (4); Scott defeats all 7 deadly exes and tells Ramona and Knives how he cheated on them. They both forgive him, and Knives lets him go with Ramona; after trying so long to keep them apart. This scene shows two shots used to show emotional reactions between the two subjects. These two shots help show their relationship after they walk off through an ominous door together.
